1 SAMUEL 30:6
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
PSALM 118:24 reads, “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
The author of this Psalm realized that if he wanted to be a happy person, he needed to encourage himself.
Who knows what David was going through at that time in his life.
It’s possible that the day he wrote these words was the worst of his life. His goal, on the other hand, was to not let his circumstances dictate his attitude on life.
ONLY YOU CAN DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT YOU WANT TO BE A HAPPY AND POSITIVE PERSON.
There is plenty to worry and feel unhappy about in the world, but it does not mean you have to live a sad or anxious life.
Others may try to encourage you, but ultimately it is up to you to decide whether or not you want to be happy.
IT IS CONTAGIOUS TO BE HAPPY
Do you see folks who are joyful when you glance around your congregation? It’s possible that you’re a bubbly and cheerful preacher if the crowd is bouncy and joyful.
If they’re depressed and can’t seem to keep a smile on their face for lengthy periods of time, you might want to take a good look in the mirror.
TAKE PLEASURE IN LIFE.
This is something that everyone does differently. We all have different passions, hobbies, and activities that we enjoy.
Do whatever it is that makes you happy in life. Don’t let what you do on your day off be dictated by someone else’s expectations of you.
Take advantage of the life that God has bestowed upon you. Even if you’re merely pitching balls in your backyard, if you enjoy golfing, make time for it. Plant a flowerbed or vegetable garden if you enjoy gardening and want to provide food for your family.
Take your surfboard to the ocean and surf if you enjoy surfing, take a book and read if that’s what you enjoy doing.
ALLOW THOSE ON YOUR TEAM OF STAFF TO PURSUE THEIR OWN INTEREST AND HOBBIES.
They will resent what you do for God and the time you take for yourself if you are jealous of the time they spend doing what makes them happy.
IT’S SIMPLER TO BE HOPEFUL WHILE YOU’RE HAVING FUN.
Take a deep breath and relax. Get some fresh air. Take advantage of the gift of life that your creator has bestowed upon you. You might even become a more optimistic person as a result of it. Consider the positive. If you do, it will have an impact on the people that hang around your life.
